44è Séminaire annuel des Évêques du Cameroun

Du 09 au 16 janvier 2021, les Evêques du Cameroun ont tenu à Bafang leur 44e Séminaire annuel sur le thème : « LA CONFERENCE EPISCOPALE NATIONALE DU CAMEROUN ET SON AVENIR ».
Les travaux se sont déroulés sous la présidence effective de Son Exc. Mgr. Abraham KOME, Evêque du diocèse Bafang et Président en exercice de la Conférence Episcopale Nationale du Cameroun (CENC).
La messe d’ouverture solennelle présidée par l’Ordinaire du lieu a été célébrée le dimanche 10 janvier 2021 en la Cathédrale du Cœur Immaculé de Banka, en la fête du Baptême du Seigneur, en présence de nombreux fidèles.
La cérémonie d’ouverture au Centre Pastoral Diocésain Heberle et Sarron a eu lieu en présence du Préfet du département du Haut-Nkam, des autorités administratives et de nombreux fidèles. Elle a été ponctuée par deux interventions. Monsieur Joseph NGEUSSIEUK, Maire de la commune de Banka dans son mot d’accueil a manifesté sa joie et sa gratitude aux Evêques du choix porté sur Banka pour abriter le 44è Séminaire annuel des Evêques du Cameroun.
Dans son discours d’ouverture, le Président de la CENC a décliné les grandes articulations du thème de ce 44è Séminaire non sans avoir rendu grâce à Dieu pour l’ordination épiscopale de Mgr. François Achille EYABI, nouvel Evêque du diocèse d’Eséka et la nomination de Mgr. Michaël BIBI MIABESUE, Evêque du diocèse de Buéa.
Ayant ensuite situé les travaux dans la continuité du précédent Séminaire tenu à Obala, il a exprimé la profonde compassion des Evêques et l’acquis de leur prière pour les familles endeuillées dans les crises de l’Extrême-Nord, du Nord-Ouest et du Sud-Ouest.
Les travaux proprement dits ont consisté en l’appropriation des études menées sur le thème : « LA CONFERENCE EPISCOPALE NATIONALE DU CAMEROUN ET SON AVENIR » inspiré du Séminaire d’Obala.
Pour une meilleure intelligence de la dernière Encyclique du Pape François « Fratelli Tutti » (Tous frères), les Evêques ont suivi un exposé présenté par l’Abbé Augustin MESSOMO, Enseignant à l’Université Catholique d’Afrique Centrale (UCAC).
Dans le cadre de l’Année de Saint Joseph instituée par le Pape François du 08 décembre 2020 au 08 décembre 2021, un programme a été élaboré pour vivre intensément cette opportunité.
Les journées ont été rythmées par l’Eucharistie et la prière du Bréviaire en présence de nombreux fidèles.
Les Evêques remercient Son Excellence Mgr Abraham KOME pour la parfaite organisation de cette assemblée. Ils expriment leur gratitude aux fidèles et forces vives du diocèse de Bafang pour leur grande générosité et leur accueil enthousiaste qui ont favorisé une atmosphère propice à la réflexion.
Ils ont accueilli avec joie l’annonce par le Nonce Apostolique de la visite prochaine au Cameroun du Cardinal Pietro PAROLIN, Secrétaire d’Etat du Saint Père, du 28 janvier au 03 février 2021 et la nomination par le Pape François de Son Exc. Mgr. Samuel KLEDA, Archevêque de Douala comme membre du Dicastère pour le Service du Développement Humain intégral.
Les Evêques expriment leur profonde reconnaissance à Mgr. Benoît KALA au terme de son mandat pour les loyaux services rendus à la CENC comme Secrétaire Général pendant 04 ans.
Le prochain séminaire annuel des Evêques se tiendra dans le diocèse de Ngaoundéré, du 08 au 15 janvier 2022.

44th Annual Seminar of the Bishops of Cameroon

The 44th Annual Seminar of the Bishops of Cameroon took place in Bafang from 9 to 16 January 2021, under the theme: THE NATIONAL EPISCOPAL CONFERENCE OF CAMEROON AND ITS FUTURE.
This seminar took place under the chairmanship of His Lordship Abraham Kome, Bishop of Bafang and current President of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon (NECC). The opening Mass was celebrated on Sunday, 10 January 2021, Solemnity of the Baptism of our Lord, in the Immaculate Heart Cathedral, Banka, with the full participation of many faithful Christians.
The official opening ceremonies on Monday, 11 January 2021, were carried out in the Herbele and Sarron Diocesan Pastoral Centre, in the presence of the Senior Divisional Officer for Haute Nkam, other administrative authorities and many faithful. The Mayor of Banka, Mr. Joseph NGUESSIEUK, welcomed the Bishops and expressed his joy and gratitude for the choice of Banka to host the 44th Seminar of the Bishops of Cameroon.
In his official opening speech, the President of NECC, first thanked God for the recent ordination of His Lordship Francois Achille Eyabi as the new bishop of Eseka and for the appointment of His Lordship Michael Miabesue Bibi, as the Bishop of the Diocese of Buea. Next, the president outlined the main concerns of the seminar, situating them within the framework of continuity from the last seminar at Obala. Furthermore, he expressed the deep compassion of the Bishops of Cameroon towards all the families affected by the armed conflict in the Extreme North, Northwest and Southwest Regions.
Although the main task of this seminar was meant to deepen the study on the theme: THE NATIONAL EPISCOPAL CONFERENCE OF CAMEROON AND ITS FUTURE, inspired by the discussions of the Seminar in Obala, the Bishops took off time to listen to an exposé on “Fratelli Tutti”, the most recent Encyclical of Pope Francis, presented by Fr Augustine Messomo, of the Catholic University of Central Africa (UCAC). In the same vein and in view of the Year of St Joseph, decreed by Pope Francis, to run from 8 December 2020 to 8 December 2021, a special national programme was drawn up to give opportunity to the faithful to fully live and benefit spiritually from the celebration.
Every day during this seminar, the Liturgy of the Hours and Holy Mass were celebrated with the participation of a good number of the faithful.
The Bishops expressed deep gratitude to His Lordship Abraham Kome for his excellent organization. They were also thankful to the clergy and laity of the Diocese of Bafang for their great generosity and warm welcome which created a very conducive atmosphere for the Bishops.
The Bishops received with deep joy news from the Apostolic Nuncio, of the visit to Cameroon by the Vatican Secretary of State, His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, from 28 January to 3 February 2021. They equally rejoiced at the news of the appointment by Pope Francis, of Archbishop Samuel Kleda, as a member of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development.
The Bishops also expressed their profound appreciation to Mgr Benoit Kala for the loyal services rendered to the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon during his four-year tenure of office as Secretary General.
The next annual seminar will take place in the Diocese of Ngaoundere from 8 to 15 January 2022.
